Hair is a sign of beauty, Muslim women cover their hair so as not to tempt, in Russia it is a sign of fertility and life- plaited bread loafs, in France the Gallic would shave the heads of the conquered tribes because it connoted the highest humiliation possible and in fashion we have worshipped certain personalities because of their enviable locks. As a little girl i had a period of short bobbed hair, during this hairless hiatus i distinctly remember placing a long dangling scarf secured by an alice band on my head and prancing around for hours. Our hair fetish goes back a long way, it was the wealthy nobility who could nurture long locks and craft elaborate wigs and so 'good' hair has always been somewhat of a status symbol. More currently hair has symbolised everything from sexual liberation to our celebrity worship. I prefer the undone styles of years gone by, when hair on a twenty something resembled that of a ten year old.Unfussy, undone and natural. Fringe optional.
