Carly Simon, Francoise Hardy and Michelle Phillips all strongly contributed to redefining the female aesthetic. They were not only feminine and sensual but questioning, daring and individual. Carly Simon wrote songs in order to mark the begining of a new type of woman, one that was at the brink of shaking off the conventions that had kept her domestic and at the mercy of household monotony. What started out as a trap for cliches and extremes, the feminist movement found expression in the voices of young talented women who understood the importance of retaining but at the same time rediscovering notions of femininity.
