The world was so recent then that many things lacked names,
and in order to indicate them it was necessary to point - Marquez

Safari

Safari is a classic. The first Western arrays into adventure begin with Africa, the continent that has stirred the imagination and moved the pens of inumerable authors is once again the inspiration behind some of the current trends. Although those that possess even an inkling of fashion sensitivity have always owned something of the safari sort.

Bardot

Famed for everything from her smile and bouncy hair to her curvy body and distinct style, Bardot understood the concept of emphasis. In most of her stylistic choices she isolates one feature to which she draws attention. A tiny belted waist exaggerated by a flared skirt, great legs highlighted by fantastic boots, fabulous hair offset by a simple one piece swimsuit...

Chloe Magic 2009-2010

The latest Chloe Spring Campaign shot by Mario Sorrenti starring Malgosia Bela has brought back a sense of dressing up and dressing down to the forefront of fashion. The notion that a well cut flowy gown will see you through the glamourous nights and that a great pair of pants and boots will keep you chic through the days, is an age old one. This 'seperatist aesthetic' has recently become lost in the humdrum of the 'anything goes' rule. Denim at night, chiffon for day... We have lost a sense of decorum and sadly in doing so, become slightly less impressive. When a woman who wears great skirt suits and sporty jodphurs during the day suddenly appears in a creamy Charlotte Rampling number in the evening, we are inevitably enchanted by her transformation. It feels  as though Chloe is one of the last labels that understands this and manages to distinguish between night and day.

Some thoughts on timelessness

Fashion is intrinsically linked to change, the excitement that new trends generate is what keeps the wheels of the industry turning - and yet ironically it is those glimpses into 'garment timelessness' that we ultimately search for and desire.I return to photographs of the sixties and seventies time and time again,i return there because I find that those two decades managed to capture the essence of why some things are timeless...
A pendant slung loosely around a tanned neck, a simple button down shirt that allows the cuffs to fold well, perfectly sized buttons and a nude girl at a well tressed table are those arrays into the classic.
